Scott Hall ruled the squared circle throughout his career. During this time, he had no time for wrestling figures or being a mark. Bret Hart, on the other hand…
Scott Hall – "I love Bret Hart, but when I left his house, I didnโt feel the same way about him."
In an interview with In Your Head Radio, Scott Hall opened up about his wrestling figures, gifts from fans, and Bret Hart:
"When we got to WCW, some of the dolls (wrestling figures), like, sucked. People were like, โWow, your dolls suck!โ And I go, โWow, yeah, my 15th doll sucked…โ (Laughs)
"I got like 50 [Scott Hall] wrestling figures. You know how cool that is? Did I ever collect them? No.
"I never did, bro. And thatโs my problem.
"You know, when youโre working for Vince, and youโre working 300 days a year, you ainโt got time for that s***.
"I can remember sometimes weโd be in Europe and [places] like that, and people would bring you a portrait. These people would hand-paint a portrait of you and bring it to you in the hotel. And theyโd like, hand it to you and youโd go, โThank you so much…โ
"Youโd take it up to the hotel room, and youโd leave it there. Cos you donโt wanna hurt their feelings, but I canโt lug this thing around for another 10-12 days on the road.
"Now, looking back, if Iโd have been mature, I would have shipped it home, and I wouldโve had it in my gym and all that kind of stuff. I never saved any of the magazine covers and any of that kind of stuff. Because, you know, when youโre out there running, and youโre doing it, and you are ruling the world, you donโt care.
"Now, getting in the twilight of my career, my kids are grown — now people go, โYou used to be that wrestler guy, right?โ And I go, โYeah.โ And I wanna go, โCome on in my gym here…let me show you all my stuff. I used to be a big deal…โ
"But I never saved any of that stuff.
"My mom does. My mom has every Scott Hall doll, every magazine cover, everything. Sheโs got it all up in her attic.
The Shrine of Bret Hart
"Iโll never forget one time we were wrestling up in Calgary. And Bret had everyone over to his house – which is really kind of him, โcos a lot of guys donโt want a bunch of wrestlers around their family. [Theyโre] like, โNah, this is where we draw the line… I donโt want a bunch of jocks hanging โround my house…โ
"But Bret has everyone over. And I gotta admit, I love Bret, but when I left his house, I didnโt feel the same way about him.
"Iโm just a different cat from Bret, I ainโt saying Iโm any better, I ainโt saying Iโm any worse, but Bretโs house is a shrine to the Hitman. I mean, there wasnโt a room in Bretโs house that didnโt have a picture of him in his wrestling gear.
"He was married back then to his lady he has babies with. Above his bed was a portrait of Bret in a โSergeant Pepperโ jacket. You know, pink with the tassels on.
"I mean, I ainโt saying it wasnโt cool. Iโm just saying, โWhoa, bro, over your BED? Are you ribbing me?โ
"I grew up doing jobs, you know?
"I used to be 290 [pounds], jacked up on steroids… I was out there, Kansas City, doing jobs for dudes who were 60 and had no teeth. This is back when it wasnโt โsports entertainmentโ – it was WRASSLIN.โ We still sold it as being โreal.โ
"I would go in bars, and people would go, โWait a minute…you do that wrasslinโ stuff, man – that stuffโs FAKE.โ
"And Iโd go, โNo, it isnโt. You wanna try me?โ
"Theyโd say, โMan, I saw that dude beat you…โ
"And Iโd say, โWell, yeah, he beat me – and Iโll [destroy] you – so think what HEโD do to you…โ
"I grew up knowing that this business is entertainment. I know that itโs a show. Iโm not saying weโre not good athletes, and we donโt get hurt. Iโm saying itโs a show. And I never grew up a – we call them โmarksโ – Iโm not a mark for myself.
"Iโve got pictures of different people Iโve met on the road. I got pictures of The Kliq. I got pictures of my buds in different parts of the world and stuff like that.
"[Wrestling] is what I do – itโs not who I am. Itโs my occupation. Itโs my love. Itโs my passion. Iโve been blessed to do it, but it doesnโt define who I am."
