Today In Pro Wrestling History: On January 29, 1996, just before WCW Monday Nitro went live, Konnan defeated The One Man Gang to win the WCW United States Championship.
Konnan’s First WCW Win

This pre-show victory marked a significant achievement for Konnan, being his first championship in WCW. His reign as the US Champion lasted 160 days until he was defeated by Ric Flair at the July 7 pay-per-view, Bash at the Beach.
The match in which Konnan won the title was broadcast on the February 4th edition of WCW Main Event.
