Today in Pro Wrestling History (August 27): Shane Douglas Throws Down the NWA World Title
In an angle only he, Tod Gordon, and Paul Heyman knew about, Douglas threw down the NWA title belt and stated that he did not want to be champion of a “dead promotion”.
Douglas raised the ECW Championship belt and declared it to be a global title, renaming it the ECW ‘World Heavyweight Championship.
