Professional wrestling demands incredible physical prowess, mental grit, and the ability to perform under pressure. But behind the suplexes, powerbombs, and high-flying drama, there’s an unspoken reality that comes with the job: the occasional, untimely fart! With protein shakes, strenuous moves, and the sheer unpredictability of the human body, it’s only natural that a little "free speech" slips out now and then! Discover eleven of the funniest and most mortifying fart moments in wrestling that left even the pros red-faced.
1. Bam Bam Bigelow and Bret Hart’s Protein Powder Surprise
In a candid interview with Title Match Wrestling before his untimely death, Bam Bam Bigelow shared an unforgettable moment from the 1993 King of the Ring tournament that went far beyond typical wrestling drama.
“It was one of the best matches in my career, you know?” Bigelow began, “Right up there, I think actually better than the Barry Windham match [at Starrcade ’88]. I think even today people rate that as- Bret’s just such talent, you know?”
He continued, describing the unique chemistry he shared with Bret Hart. “His style of wrestling complimented mine and my style complemented his, you know? He just liked to sell. Get some heat, and he would like them big long comebacks, and that’s what I used to like. Our chemistry was perfect together. Me and Bret always had good matches together. Always.”
Bigelow detailed how they worked together. “When we were wrestling, it’s not like we were going to be running and doing a lot of spots because that’s not my thing, you know? I move a lot more than most of the big guys, but it was easier for Bret, because like I said, he would sell.”
Then came the moment that would transform an epic match into wrestling folklore.
“I’d be able to pound the **** out of him, he’d make a little comeback, he’d get a little bit tired, and I’d just pick him up and smash him and then grab a hold and just let him get some air because I knew he was tired,” he recalled.
The match’s climax brought an unexpected twist.
“It went on, twenty-something minutes. I still remember the finish, man. A little roll-up, a little victory roll, man, you know?” Bigelow paused, then delivered the punchline. “I think when he did that, he farted right in my face, too! And I was like, ‘You son of a *****!'”
Mimicking the moment, Bigelow continued, “He went up, did a victory roll. I’m under and… ::fart noise:: I was like, ‘Oh, BRET!‘”
The protein-powered emission was so potent that even the referee wasn’t spared. “You know, taking all that protein powder. Oh, he killed me, man! Oh, God! Even [the ref] was dying going down for the pin. He was holding his nose! It was hysterical, man.”
2. Mae Young Ripples Bubba Ray’s Bread Basket
During a 2015 interview on The Sam Roberts Show, Bubba Ray Dudley shared a quintessential Mae Young story that perfectly captured her legendary status.
“Tough, tough, tough woman,” Dudley explained. “As a matter of fact, I always say Mae Young is the toughest man I’ve ever met in pro wrestling.”
The first time Dudley slammed Young in the ring, he remembered being extraordinarily careful. “I remember I put her down oh so gingerly,” he recalled. But Young wasn’t having any of his delicate treatment.
“Afterward, we were in the locker room, and she comes over to me, she grabs my wrist hard, and she says, ‘Hey, hotshot! If you’re going to slam me, you slam me like one of the boys!'”
Then when I power bombed her off the stage, I gave her very specific instructions on what to do to make sure she did not have to absorb any bit of the blow. She threw it all out the window. She threw herself right off the stage and took the whole thing herself! I had no choice.”
“And then she farted on me,” Dudley stated matter-of-factly. “It kind of rippled through my nuts.”
“After that whole thing,” Dudley continued, “I watched her go to Vince McMahon and tell him, ‘I want them to powerbomb me off the top of the cage!’ She wanted to wrestle her last match when she turned 100. One thousand percent her goal. That’s what she wanted, and if she were alive and made it to a hundred, God bless her, Vince McMahon would have let her do it.”
Sadly, Mae Young passed away in 2014 at the age of 90, ten years shy of her dream to wrestle one last match at a hundred. Her spirit, however, remains immortal in the wrestling world.
3. Andre the Giant’s Legendary Gas Attacks
On a 2023 episode of The Snake Pit podcast, Jake Roberts shared some unforgettable experiences with Andre the Giant’s notorious gas attacks.
“One time during a match, he knocked me into the corner, crushed me, and I went down on my back,” Roberts recalled. “I turned over on my side, and he sat on me, holding onto the ropes, laughing.”
The bewildered referee asked Andre why he was laughing, as breaking character in the ring was a major no-no. Andre simply replied, “I’m farting!”
Roberts continued, “When he said it, I could feel my shoulder vibrating from the tension.”
In a 2012 interview with Raj Giri, Roberts offered even more vivid details about Andre’s playful brutality:
"He brutalized me out there, but he was just having fun doing it," Roberts said, recalling Andre’s unique sense of humor.
“Whether it was him standing on my hair, grabbing my arm, and hearing my hair pop like piano strings, or him sitting on me and farting, it was a horrible experience. I didn’t realize how long a Giant could fart—25 seconds of brutal gas.”
With a laugh, he added, “There’s something about vodka and wine on an empty stomach that creates a nasty potion to inhale. I thought I had a birthmark on my arm, but it was just a wine stain from his ***!”
Despite it all, Roberts spoke fondly of Andre.
“He could do things to you out there, man. His strength was incredible, unbelievable. But I loved the man and loved working with him. We had a great time.”

4. Stone Cold Steve Austin’s South African Surprise
During a 2019 appearance on Hot Ones, Stone Cold Steve Austin shared an unfortunate tale involving a 1996 match he had in South Africa against Yokozuna.
“A lot of times, when you’re doing international travel and there is a dietary change, things happen,” Austin began candidly. “Yok’, man, he was weighing 600 pounds at the time, and when he picked me up and slammed me, something went south.”
On a 2020 episode of The Voice Versus Steve Austin, he elaborated further: “So anyway, Yok’ picks me up with one arm and slams the **** out of me. Literally. He slammed me [so hard] I **** my pants! It wasn’t like a gigantic ****, I mean, you know – I sprayed.”
“I’m lucky I wore black trunks,” he explained. “So I look up at Yoko, and I say, ‘Let’s go home,’ and he goes, ‘Ok, brah.’ We did the finish – I can’t remember who won or lost – and I headed directly to the showers, took care of business.”
5. Paul “Big Show” Wight’s Double Feature
On the Oral Sessions podcast with Renee Paquette, Paul Wight recounted two memorable incidents from a two-on-one handicap match against Brock Lesnar, in which Paul Heyman was also involved, in Cape Town, South Africa, and it left the audience breathless—but for all the wrong reasons.
“In Cape Town, I had some bad food,” Wight said. “And this is back when I had the leather pants. I hit that mat, and now I’m being covered. Lesnar goes, ‘Did you ****?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Ha ha ha ha ha, you ****!'”
“And then while I’m laying in the ring, after the F5, he kept stepping on my stomach, like he’s trying to get more to come out,” Wight recalled.
“Paul E. is laying there, and he goes, ‘You gonna carry me to the back?’ I’m like, ‘No.’ ‘What do you mean, you’re not gonna carry me to the back?’ ‘I **** myself.’ ‘I can’t hear you. What?’ ‘I **** my pants!’ ‘Oh… okay… are you alright?'”
Although it was an embarrassing moment, Wight couldn’t help but laugh when retelling the story, transforming an otherwise mortifying experience into a memorably humorous one.
6. CM Punk’s SmackDown Situation
In a 2014 interview on the Art of Wrestling podcast with Colt Cabana, CM Punk revealed how medical negligence led to one of his most embarrassing moments.
While dealing with what would later be diagnosed as a potentially lethal MRSA infection, WWE’s doctor had prescribed him Z-Paks to the point that he “**** himself on television.”
The incident occurred during a SmackDown match against Dean Ambrose in 2013. As Punk described it, “I had been on antibiotics for months. At one point, I was on so many that I literally **** my pants in the ring. And instead of going, ‘Maybe I should go to the doctor or maybe I should tell somebody,’ I was like, ‘I’ll just take more Z-Paks.'”
According to referee Marty Elias in a 2009 interview, this wasn’t Punk’s only gaseous incident in the ring.
“Guys like Edge and CM Punk are notorious for pulling pranks in the ring, specifically, farting up a storm. When they see the look on my face, telling them that I’ve smelled it, they just smile.”
Later, when discussing his UFC career prospects, Punk found humor in the situation. “What happens if I lose? What happens if I get embarrassed in front of the world? And then you think to yourself, ‘Well, you **** yourself on national television before so how bad can it go?'”
7. Natalya Neidhart: The Hart Family Legacy Continues
Like her uncle Bret before her, Natalya Neidhart found herself at the center of one of wrestling’s most infamous—and unlikely—storylines. In 2012, WWE creative handed the technically-gifted wrestler a gimmick that, while unconventional, would follow her career for years to come: an embarrassing "gas" storyline.
During a 2014 interview with SLAM! Wrestling, Natalya addressed the experience with characteristic professionalism.
“It’s so great to say, ‘No matter what I’m given, I’m going to make it great,'” she explained. “I’m going to pass gas, maybe I had too many protein bars that morning. I’m sorry, but as a Diva, I’m going to eat a lot of protein, and if I’m going to do that, then I’m going to look like a rockstar doing that, dressed to the nines in vintage couture and I’m going to make it gold.”
Despite the storyline’s awkwardness, Natalya approached it with humor and resilience. Around the time, she even tweeted at her uncle, Bret Hart, saying, "Our visit the other day reminded me that you can’t change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand. Positive energy wins."
True to form, she even engaged with fans on Twitter, responding, “Nice play on words!” to a fan who joked, “You think you’re hot ****, but you’re really just a warm fart.” Her advice? "Never take yourself too seriously!"
8. Darren Young’s Wyatt Family Encounter
In a 2016 interview with TMZ Sports, Darren Young shared what he considered his most embarrassing moment in the ring, which occurred during a tag team match against the Wyatt Family.
“Me and Titus, my tag team partner at the time, were wearing these baby blue tights,” Young recalled. “And I hated the baby blue tights for some reason, I just hated the color. And in a match, one of the Wyatt boys just slammed me so hard that I sharted my pants.”
When the TMZ interviewer asked for clarification about the “shart,” Young confirmed: “I sharted my pants, and I was so embarrassed, I never wore those tights again!”
9. Sycho Sid’s WrestleMania Mystery
One of wrestling’s most enduring urban legends involves Sycho Sid at WrestleMania 13. During his WWE Championship match against The Undertaker in 1997, Sid allegedly had an accident in the ring that led to one of wrestling’s most mysterious moments.
While it’s not visible during the broadcast, Sid’s unusually quick exit from the ring following the match has fueled speculation for years.
Some claim the incident actually happened at a house show prior to WrestleMania, but as one wrestling forum noted, “While it likely could have been passed off as a fart, something with the texture and warmth of Apple Pie may soon have found its way into Sid’s pants.”
10. Vince McMahon’s Gorilla Position Gags
On his ARN Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson revealed that even the former boss himself wasn’t above using flatulence for entertainment.
“Vince used to fart up in gorilla position [[the location behind the curtain where key staff oversee live events] all the time and it would fill the room,” Anderson recalled.
“He would sit over there, you’d see him, he’s laughing his *** off because everybody was gagging. Gerry Brisco was big time gagging. All that protein Vince was eating, you could imagine how bad.”
Jim Ross corroborated these stories on Opie and Anthony, sharing a notorious backstage incident where McMahon attempted to play a practical joke on Gerald Brisco before a live RAW segment.
“He turned his back to Brisco to deposit something in the air, and it got liquid. He sharted,” Ross recalled. “It stunk, and Brisco almost fell out of his chair, holding his stomach and dry heaving.”
McMahon proceeded with his scheduled segment despite the obvious stain on his khaki pants. As Ross noted, “That’s the true definition of focus – Vince McMahon sharted his pants and just didn’t give a ****; he had some wrestling to sell!”
11. Rikishi’s Stinkface: Clean or Dirty?
On an episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, he revealed that Rikishi had two very different versions of his infamous finishing move.
“The very first time I took a Stinkface I was like, ‘Oh my god, what is this going to be like?'” Hardy recalled.
“Rikishi, if you were a guy he liked, he’d make sure to be super clean for you. It smelled like baby powder, it was very easy and not rough at all. It was delightful even.”
However, Kurt Angle had a very different experience. On his podcast, Angle revealed, “One time he gave me the stinkface and the ******* took a **** and didn’t wipe his ***. And he buried me in it!”
Hardy later confirmed the dual nature of the move.
“He ran with that crew, he was one of Taker’s guys too,” Hardy explained, referring to Rikishi’s involvement in BSK [Bone Street Krew, a backstage group of wrestlers led by The Undertaker known for their close camaraderie]. “So I’m sure if it was someone who had a little heat or someone he didn’t like as much I’m sure [the stinkface] would have a different scent to it!”
Farts, the Great Equalizer: When Nature Calls in Nature Boy’s World
Professional wrestling has always been about larger-than-life personalities performing superhuman feats. Yet these stories remind us that beneath the glitz, glamour, and carefully choreographed moves lies an undeniable truth: even the mightiest warriors can’t escape their own biology.
From Andre the Giant’s wine-soaked emissions to Stone Cold’s South African surprise, or from Mae Young’s elderly explosions to Vince McMahon’s corporate catastrophe, these moments have become part of wrestling’s rich tapestry of tales. They’re shared in locker rooms, whispered about in wrestling schools, and now preserved in wrestling lore.
Perhaps that’s why these stories resonate so deeply with fans and performers alike. In a sport where participants are often portrayed as superhuman, there’s something wonderfully humbling about remembering that even the greatest wrestlers can fall victim to an ill-timed fart or an unfortunate shart. After all, what could be more human than that?
