The decision to make them co-champions arose from a match on December 28, 1999, which aired on December 30, 1999, on SmackDown!

This match ended in a double pinfall, leading to both being recognized as co-champions. However, it’s noteworthy that WWE does not officially recognize this period as an actual title reign but rather as a vacancy.
