Today in Pro Wrestling History: In Tokyo, Japan, on April 18th, 1985 – Bruiser Brody’s short stint with New Japan Pro Wrestling began when he faced off against the company’s legendary founder, Antonio Inoki.

Brody, who for years had performed for rival All-Japan Pro Wrestling, made a surprise appearance for NJPW at Kourakuen Hall on March 21st but didn’t wrestle. Instead, Brody was in a suit and swinging his chain.

This would kick off a feud between Brody and Inoki, during which Brody went into the dressing room and injured Inoki’s elbow. During their series, many of their matches ended in no-contests or disqualifications.
