The Montreal Screwjob is widely believed to have been a carefully orchestrated maneuver by Vince McMahon behind closed doors, aimed at taking the title away from Bret Hart before his departure for WCW.
Moments before Bret “The Hitman” Hart made his entrance for the main event at Survivor Series 1997, fellow wrestler Leon White, famously known as Vader, called him over.
In the days leading up to Survivor Series, McMahon was almost constantly on the phone with either Hart or Michaels, enough so that it was disruptive to the meetings between McMahon and WWF writers at the time, Jim Cornette and Vince Russo.
