Shocking Showdown: The Unseen Battle Between Steve Austin and Jeff Jarrett

When Jeff Jarrett returned to the then-WWF in October of ’97, he was promised a feud with Steve Austin. This promise was one of the biggest deciding factors in Jarrett coming back to the company.

Double J faced disappointment as Austin outright dismissed the notion of collaborating with him, citing various reasons that led to the refusal.

JEFF JARRETT (on his first night back to the WWF in '97): "Now here’s a guy [Steve Austin] who’s lowered himself to shaving his head and coming out here every week not once or twice but ten or fifteen times and saying the word a**!"

It seemed like the groundwork was being laid for a feud, but the challenge for Jarrett was that Austin was vehemently opposed to the concept.

The promo’s content was never discussed with Steve beforehand, which made him absolutely livid when he heard it live, and when Jarrett walked back through the curtains, a furious Stone Cold awaited.

"Steve was freakin’ furious; I mean, his bald head was BLOOD RED."
