Born in the Bronx in 1932, Mark Tendler initially pursued a career in boxing. However, he eventually transitioned to wrestling, seeking a sport that offered the level of physicality he craved.

Tendler revealed to Newsday that he quickly sought out George Tragos, a retired Olympic wrestler renowned for training the legendary NWA Champion Lou Thesz.

“George said, ‘You think you’re tough?’ “He picked me up and slammed me around. He kept beating me up five days a week till I got the hang of it. Wrestling is a rough way to make a living. It separates the men from the boys. It’s like football without shoulder pads and helmets”, Tendler would say.

His Life Outside of the Ring

In the 1960s and '70s, injuries and financial obligations started to take a toll on Mark Tendler. At the encouragement of his father, he temporarily stepped away from wrestling and became a full-time lingerie salesman.
