In 2005, New Japan Pro Wrestling faced a challenging period marked by dismal attendance figures at their live events due to the mismanagement of the promotion by its founder, Antonio Inoki.
Leading the charge was Shinsuke Nakamura, the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history and a protege of Inoki, alongside Brock Lesnar, who was formerly a star in WWE.
In 2002, Shinsuke Nakamura marked his debut in New Japan Pro Wrestling following his training at the New Japan LA Dojo, which was founded by Antonio Inoki.
When Inoki got wind of Nakamura’s impressive background in martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu, and amateur wrestling, he took him under his wing. He began pushing him to be the company’s star.
Brock Lesnar: “I figured going to Japan would be a great experience. I’d pick up some excellent coin, eat some fresh sushi, and deliver a great big ‘screw you’ to Vince McMahon.”
